The Lady Vikings hosted Riverton Park and North Vermillion in their season opener. The young team did not disappoint in their performance or depth. Overall they took thirteen 1st place finishes and had strong competitive performances across the board. Freshman Dusty Welker earned the top spot in the 100 (12.42), 400 (1:01.2), 200 (26.5) and 4×4 relay (4:24) by placing 1st in all four events. Junior Corynn DeGroote had a strong night as she won the long jump (15’4), and was on the 1st place finishing teams in the 4×1(55.42) and 4×4 (4:24) with a 2nd place in the 400 (1:04),
Junior Maci Easton took 1st in the 800 ((2:45) and her relay teams in the 4×8 (11:27) and 4×4 took 1st place. Freshman Masyn Fisk took a couple of her own blue ribbons in the Pole Vault (6’0) and 100 Hurdles (19.17). Freshman Cassie Roush took 1st in the 1600 (6:29) with freshman Gwen Garman in 3rd (6:56). Both girls were members of the winning 4×8 team as well. The one two punch of Junior Saddie Herring and Grewn Garman helped the distance crew out by taking 1st and 2nd respectively in the 3200 (15:22 &16:07). Herring was also a member of the winning 4×8 team. Rounding out the top 1st finishers was freshman Chloe VanGilder in the Shot Put (30’04) and 4th in the discus. Other members of the winning 4×1 team was
sophomore Whitley Hoesman and freshman Hailey Hillhouse. Hilllhouse also placed 2nd , 4th and 4th in the pole vault, 100 and 200 respectively and Hoesman took 3rd in the pole vault. Rounding out the night with solid, strong performances was freshman Kyarra DeGroote as she was a member of the winning 4×1 and 4×4 and took 2nd in the 100 (12.97) and 200 (26.99).
