Mr. Gabe Cook attended West Vigo High School from 1992-1996 where he compiled a 112-12 record in his wrestling career. He established school records in takedowns, wins in a season, escapes, decisions in a season, near falls, consecutive wins, team points and technical falls. He was four-time Sectional Champion, two-time Regional Champion and one-time Semi-State Champion. As a sophomore his record was 29-4, as a junior 29-2, he was a State Qualifier, and as a senior he was undefeated at 34-0 and State Champion.
After high school, he attended Indiana University on a wrestling scholarship, where he was a four-year varsity starter and compiled a 24-11 record his senior year. He graduated in 2001 from
the Indiana University School of Education. He was named two- time Academic All-Big Ten and was the recipient of the Indiana University Varsity Club Scholar Athlete Award in 2000.
Upon graduation from Indiana University, he returned to his community and taught special education at West Vigo Middle School for six years. While at WVMS, he coached two years under Scott Rohrbach, where he says he was voted better looking both years! He currently teaches mildly/mentally disabled students at Terre Haute South and is in his fifth year as the varsity wrestling coach. In the last five years, his team has had eight first team All MIC conference selections, a 2012 McMillan Award winner, two Wabash Valley All-Sports team selections for wrestling, five Regional Champions, three Semi-State Champions, two State Qualifiers, and three State Medalists-placing 7th, 5th and a 2011 State runner up.
